Best overall choice for most adaptive paddlers
Sit-Inside Recreational Kayaks
Our strongest recommendation is to use a compatible sit-inside recreational kayak whenever possible. That's because they can accommodate our Hinged Mount, which provides the highest level of stability and overall performance of all Angle Oar mount options.

Ideal when easier transfers or an open deck are preferred
Sit-On-Top Kayaks
Sit-on-top kayaks can be an excellent option for paddlers who prefer an open seating area or need greater flexibility when getting in and out of the kayak. Depending on the kayak, the Apex Mount or Twin Track Mount may be the best fit.

Great for spouses, caregivers, friends and family members
Tandem Kayaks
Tandem kayaks allow two people to paddle together and are often used by adaptive programs, families and caregivers who want to share the paddling experience. In many cases, our Hinged Mount can be placed either in front or back.

Maximum deck space and flexibility
Stand Up Paddleboard
Stand up paddle boards provide a highly open platform and can work well with adaptive paddling accessories. They are often used by programs and recreational paddlers looking for versatility.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I choose the best adaptive kayak?
The best adaptive kayak depends on several factors:
Your strength and mobility
Whether you paddle alone or with others
Desired stability level
Ease of transportation
Preferred water conditions
Whether you plan to use adaptive paddling equipment
Any features that are important to you (e.g., comfortable seating, kayak weight, or ease of getting in and out
If you're unsure which kayak is right for you, contact us and we'll be happy to help you identify the best kayak and adaptive equipment combination for your needs.
Can I use adaptive kayaking equipment from other manufacturers?
In many cases, yes.
Many of the kayaks in our collection are compatible with adaptive seating systems, transfer aids, and other adaptive paddling equipment manufactured by third parties.
Because adaptive equipment varies widely, we recommend contacting us before purchasing if you have questions about compatibility.
Do I need to install the adaptive equipment myself?
Yes. Adaptive equipment is generally installed after the kayak arrives.
Most installations are straightforward, and our team is available to answer questions and provide guidance. Installation instructions and videos are available for many products.
In some cases, you may want to reach out to a local paddlesports specialty retailer as some of them may do the installation for you, for a fee.
Are these kayaks assembled before shipping?
No. Because these kayaks are shipped directly to your home, they arrive unassembled and any adaptive equipment must be installed after delivery.
Fortunately, most installations can be completed using basic tools.
Angle Oar provides customer support, installation instructions and installation videos to help guide you through the process.

Can I add kayak outriggers to these kayaks?
Many of the kayaks in our collection can be equipped with our Kayak & Canoe Stabilizing Outriggers.
Outriggers can provide additional confidence and stability for paddlers who are concerned about balance or who simply prefer a more stable paddling experience.
The attachment hardware that comes with our outriggers is intended for installations in which you can access the inside of the kayak, for example, behind the seat, so that you can tighten the nuts onto the bolts. Some of these models do not have access to the inside, but in those cases, a "blind" installation may be possible. Contact us at info@angleoar.com if you need hardware for such an installation, and we'll add it to the outriggers at no charge.
